01
Best overall pick
Belden Town Resort & Lodge River Beach
Belden Canyon • Relaxed River Beach By A Historic Lodge • Closest Sandy Spot To Belden
A shallow, sunlit bend in the North Fork Feather River with easy access from the lodge and campground.
Walk down from the lodge to find a mix of small sandy patches and smooth river rock with clear, fast-moving water. It is a great place to cool off after hiking or driving the canyon, but currents can be strong in early season, so most people wait until later summer to really linger. There are no lifeguards, so it is more of a relaxed hangout for capable swimmers than a structured swim beach.
02
Best roadside swim
Caribou Crossroads River Access
Feather River Canyon, North Of Belden • Low-Key Roadside River Bank • Best Quick Dip On A Highway 70 Drive
Pull-off swimming hole with a gravel beach, clear current, and a small store and café across the road.
Just up the canyon from Belden, this bend in the river is popular with campers and road-trippers looking for an easy swim without a long hike. Expect a narrow gravel bar, deep green pools close to shore, and shade that drifts across the water by late afternoon. It is informal and unmarked, so bring your own chairs, water shoes, and a sense of river safety.
03
Best lake beach for a full day out
Sandy Point Day Use Area, Bucks Lake
Bucks Lake North Shore • Family-Friendly Mountain Lake Beach • Best All-Around Day-Use Beach
Wide, gently sloping sand with classic pine-rimmed views and easy access to picnic tables and restrooms.
Sandy Point is where locals send visitors when they ask for a real beach near Belden. The sand is soft enough for bare feet, the water stays shallow a good distance from shore, and there is plenty of room to spread out even on busy weekends. Come early to beat the afternoon winds, and be ready for brisk mountain water that feels great on hot canyon days.
04
Best sheltered cove
Haskins Valley Campground Beach, Bucks Lake
Bucks Lake West Side • Campground Cove With Calm Water • Best For Kids And Casual Paddling
Small, protected cove with a mix of sand and fine gravel, tucked below a busy lakeside campground.
Tucked into a pocket of the shoreline, Haskins Valley feels more intimate than the big open stretches of Bucks Lake. The cove blocks some of the afternoon chop, making it a comfortable place for children to splash and for paddlers to launch kayaks or paddleboards. Parking can be tight in peak season, but if you are staying at the campground it is basically your front-yard beach.
05
Best for a weekend getaway
North Shore Campground Beach, Lake Almanor
Lake Almanor North Shore • Wide Lakefront With Campground Vibe • Best For Combining Camping And Beach Time
Long stretch of grassy and sandy shoreline where campers wander straight from their sites to the water’s edge.
About an hour’s drive from Belden, Lake Almanor’s north shore gives you a bigger-lake feel without losing the Sierra setting. The beach here is more open and social than the tiny river pullouts, with boats offshore, kids on floaties, and sunset views across the water to Lassen Peak on clear evenings. It is ideal if you want to turn a simple beach afternoon into a full camping weekend.
