Best overall beach
Coronado Central Beach
Oceanfront Near Hotel Del Coronado • Iconic Wide Ocean Beach • Best For Classic Coronado Views
The broad main stretch of Coronado is where glittering sand, gentle waves, and the Hotel del Coronado all line up in one sweeping view.
Central Beach is the stretch most people picture when they think of Coronado: a long, level ribbon of sand running in front of the Hotel del Coronado and stately homes. The waves are usually manageable, making it comfortable for casual swimmers and boogie boarders, and there is plenty of room to spread out even on busy weekends. Street parking along Ocean Boulevard fills early, so locals often come in the morning or near sunset and walk the promenade before settling into the sand.

Best for dog owners
Coronado Dog Beach
North Beach • Off-Leash Dog-Friendly Beach • Best For Running With The Pup
At the far north end of Coronado, this sandy stretch lets dogs run off-leash with open views toward Point Loma and the Pacific.
Tucked beyond the rock jetty at the north end of Ocean Boulevard, Coronado Dog Beach is one of the few places where dogs can legally romp off-leash right in the surf. The beach slopes gently, so you get shallow zones for hesitant pups and kids, plus wide open sand for throwing a ball at low tide. Expect a lively, social scene; pack water and a towel for sandy paws, and be ready for a longer walk from street parking to the off-leash area.

Best for space and long walks
Silver Strand State Beach
Along Silver Strand Boulevard • Spacious State Park Beach • Best For Uncrowded Shoreline
Stretching down the thin isthmus toward Imperial Beach, Silver Strand offers long, open sand with both ocean and bay access.
Just south of the main village, Silver Strand State Beach trades the bustle of Coronado proper for a more open, coastal-park feel. The ocean side has consistent waves and a wide shore that is ideal for long walks, kite flying, and spreading out away from crowds, while the bay side stays calmer and is popular with paddlers. There is paid parking inside the state park and basic facilities, so it suits a full beach day if you want fewer people and more horizon.

Best for families with young kids
Glorietta Bay Beach
Bayside Near Community Center • Calm Bayside Swim Beach • Best For Calm Water And Playgrounds
A small sandy pocket on the bay with gentle water, grassy lawns, and nearby playgrounds that work well for younger kids.
Just across from the Hotel del Coronado on the bay side, Glorietta Bay Beach offers a more controlled setting than the open ocean. The water is typically flat and shallow, so parents like it for wading toddlers and beginning swimmers, and the adjacent park brings shade trees, picnic spots, and a playground within a short walk. Parking is simpler here than along Ocean Boulevard, especially on busy summer days, making it a practical choice when you want an easy in-and-out with the family.

Best skyline and bridge views
Coronado Tidelands Park
Bayside Near Coronado Bridge • Grassy Bayfront Park With Small Beach • Best For Picnics And Mellow Water
This bayfront park has a small sandy edge, bike paths, and sweeping views of the San Diego skyline and Coronado Bridge.
On the northeastern side of the island, Tidelands Park is more park than beach, but its little bayside sand strip is perfect for dipping your toes in while you picnic or bike along the path. The water stays calm, making it inviting for paddleboards and kids who just want to splash, and the backdrop of downtown and the bridge is hard to beat at golden hour. Local groups often use the fields for games, so the atmosphere is relaxed and community-focused rather than purely sun-and-surf.
