Just a few miles west of Las Lomas, the dunes give way to a string of raw, beautiful Monterey Bay beaches. This shoreline leans more wild than resorty, with plenty of room to roam, watch birds, or walk for miles. Expect cool breezes, shifting fog, and some of the best uncrowded sand on the central coast.

This is the first place many Las Lomas locals think of when they want a quick beach fix. You get harbor views, long walks toward the jetty, and regular pelican and sea otter sightings just offshore. Parking is straightforward, but pack layers—the wind can pick up even on sunny days.

Tucked at the end of rural roads, Zmudowski feels far from town even though it is one of the closest beaches to Las Lomas. The combination of dunes, lagoon, and pounding waves makes it a striking place to explore on foot. There are no services, so bring what you need and respect the powerful currents by staying on the sand.

If you like the feeling of having the coast mostly to yourself, this stretch is a good bet. Access points are simple pullouts, but once you crest the dunes you get big views of Monterey Bay and the river mouth. Expect soft sand, scattered driftwood, and plenty of space to roam rather than amenities or crowds.

Sunset has a more classic beach-park feel than the wilder spots closer to Las Lomas, with established picnic tables, restrooms, and signed trails down to the sand. The wide beach and softer waves make it popular with families on clear afternoons. It still feels natural, though, with tall dunes and big-sky sunsets over the water.

A bit farther north but still an easy drive from Las Lomas, Manresa brings a low-key Santa Cruz–area energy without the boardwalk crowds. Surfers spread out along the break while walkers follow the shoreline toward Sunset and Seacliff. Parking is on the bluff, so be ready for stairs or a trail down to the sand.
