Just a short drive up the road, Collins Lake feels like the default beach day for a lot of Loma Rica families. There’s a long stretch of shoreline where you can stake out a spot, along with roped-off swim areas that keep kids close to shore. Add in boat and paddle rentals, shaded picnic tables, and a small store for snacks and ice, and you can comfortably make a full day of it.

Bullards Bar is where locals go when they want deep, clear water and a more adventurous feel than the typical lake park. Many of the best little beaches here are tucked into coves, so a boat, kayak, or paddleboard opens up quieter spots to swim and float. Expect narrow, rocky shorelines more than broad sand, but the mountain views and glassy water make it worth the extra effort.

Down at Bridgeport, the South Yuba eases into long pools with enough shallow shoreline to feel like a beach, especially in lower flows. People spread out on smooth rocks and gravel bars, wading in slowly or swimming across the deeper channels. It’s a bit more of a day trip from Loma Rica, but the combination of clear water, history, and scenery makes it one of the region’s standout river spots.

Sycamore Ranch and the neighboring Hammon Grove Park offer one of the easiest ways for Loma Rica locals to get straight onto the Yuba River. Trails drop quickly from the parking areas down to broad gravel and sand bars where people set up chairs, coolers, and shade tents. The current can move here, so it suits confident swimmers best, but on hot afternoons it’s hard to beat for a quick, close-to-home dunk in the river.

Englebright is a narrow canyon reservoir, so the shoreline feels more intimate than sprawling, and that’s part of its appeal. From the main recreation areas and boat launches, you can find small pockets of shoreline to wade in, or take a kayak to reach quieter pull-outs that feel almost private. It’s a nice option when Collins feels busy and you’re willing to trade a bit of convenience for calmer water and a more laid-back atmosphere.
