Aim for an earlier arrival on summer weekends to dodge the worst of the traffic and parking crunch. For a bit more breathing room, walk down toward the river mouth or out along the pier for a different angle on the scene.

It’s an easy walk from the parking lot to the sand, but bring layers—the wind can pick up quickly here even on sunny days.
