Lake Siskiyou’s main day-use beach at the camp resort is where many locals take visiting friends when they want an effortless beach day. There’s a gently sloping sandy shoreline, a marked swim zone, restrooms, and usually a snack bar or small concessions in summer. It does get busy on hot weekends, but the views and amenities make it the most complete beach experience near McCloud.

A low-key pebbly beach on Lake McCloud with glassy water, simple access, and few distractions beyond the surrounding pines.
Follow the road down to Lake McCloud and you’ll find small pullouts that lead to the north shore beach areas, where the shoreline opens into informal swimming coves. The beach is more gravel and packed earth than pure sand, but it’s easy to spread a towel, launch a kayak, or wade into the clear, calm water. There are no services right at the shore, so bring what you need and pack out everything you carry in.

At Lower Falls, the McCloud River drops into a wide emerald pool framed by smooth volcanic rock ledges that work like impromptu beach chairs. You can walk down from the main overlook to find calm pockets for wading, deeper sections for strong swimmers, and flat rocks for sunbathing between dips. It feels more like a classic swimming hole than a traditional sandy beach, but for many locals this is summer in McCloud at its best.

Broad rock slabs and pockets of gravel along the river give you space to spread out below one of the prettiest waterfalls in the region.
From the Middle Falls overlook, a well-used path drops down to the river’s edge where the current mellows out and the shoreline opens into flat rocks and small gravel bars. It’s a beautiful compromise between a viewpoint and a beach: you still hear the falls thundering upstream while you sit nearly at water level. The water is cold and there’s no lifeguard, but patient explorers can usually find a shallow, slower section that works for a careful soak or quick plunge.

A high-elevation lake with rocky little pocket “beaches,” boulder ledges, and chilly water framed by granite walls and forest.
Castle Lake’s shoreline is more rugged than sandy, but just off the parking area you’ll find small clearings and rock platforms where people sun themselves and ease into the mountain-cold water. On calm days, the lake feels almost like a natural infinity pool, with reflections of the surrounding peaks and pines stretching across the surface. It’s especially popular in late summer, when a quick plunge here is the perfect follow-up to nearby hikes.
