The strand stretches far enough that you can quickly walk away from the main access and find a quieter patch of sand. Bring a windbreaker, because the ocean exposure and open dunes mean it can feel brisk even on sunny days.

A long, gently sloping beach along the bay side of the spit, with milder surf and plenty of room for picnics and kite flying.
When the outer coast feels too wild, locals steer visitors to Doran. The bay-facing shoreline has smaller waves and a softer entry, which makes it a more relaxed spot for kids, casual wading, and beach games. Picnic tables, restrooms, and defined parking areas give it a more park-like feel than the rugged pullouts along Highway 1.
