Short, mostly flat paths head from roadside parking to the bluffs, where you can drop down to pocket beaches at low tide. It feels remote despite being just off Highway 1, so pack water and be prepared for limited facilities. Sunset is especially striking here, with kelp beds and offshore rocks catching the last light.

A wide sandy beach by the pier with easy amenities, mellow waves, and a relaxed small-town feel.
You can park near the pier, grab coffee or fish tacos on Ocean Avenue, and be on the sand in minutes. The surf is usually gentle enough for beginner surfers and boogie boarders, and there’s room to spread out if you walk a bit north or south. It’s an easy choice if your group wants restrooms, lifeguards in season, and food options close by.

Rocky coves, driftwood, and a mile-long boardwalk make this one of the most photogenic stretches of coast nearby.
Most access points have small parking lots leading to stairs down to the sand, where you can hunt for polished stones and explore tidepools at low tide. The beach itself is more for wandering than swimming, with stronger currents and uneven footing. When you’re done, you can head across the road for a drink or meal at one of the oceanfront inns and restaurants.

A long, open strand with views of Morro Rock, steady surf, and plenty of room to roam.
Parking near the northern entrances puts you on the sand quickly, and from there you can walk for miles in either direction. The beach can be breezy, so layers are smart, but that same wind makes it popular with kite flyers and surfers. It’s a good choice when you want space, scenery, and fewer crowds than around Morro Rock itself.

An undeveloped, often quieter beach with roadside parking and a loyal following of locals, surfers, and dog walkers.
Access is via a short path from the shoulder parking off Highway 1, leading to a broad, gently sloping beach. There are no facilities, but the payoff is a relaxed feel and plenty of room for leashed dogs to play in the sand and shallows. Surfers favor the shifting sandbars here when the swell lines up, while others come just to watch the pelicans and lingering sunsets.
