Classic fitness climb
Bump and Grind Trail
Near Palm Desert • Steep Desert Workout Trail • Local Favorite Workout
A short but punchy climb with valley-wide views that locals use as their go-to cardio hike.

Iconic viewpoint
The Cross Trail
Palm Desert Foothills • City-View Ridge Path • Best Sunset City Views
A moderate climb to a lit hilltop cross overlooking the valley, especially popular around sunset.
The Cross Trail winds up from the foothills to a prominent illuminated cross that you can see from much of the valley. The grade is steady rather than brutal, making it a comfortable choice if you want a workout without a grind. Time it for golden hour and you’ll get a sweep of city lights framed by the San Jacinto and Santa Rosa ranges.

Challenging backcountry loop
Boo Hoff Trail
La Quinta Cove • Long Desert Canyon Route • Best For Seasoned Hikers
A demanding desert loop with big views, remote-feeling canyons, and serious mileage close to town.
Starting from the end of the La Quinta Cove neighborhood, the Boo Hoff Trail quickly leaves houses behind and dives into rugged hills and broad washes. The longer loop variations feel surprisingly remote, with rolling ridges, tight canyons, and long sightlines toward the Salton Sea on clear days. Bring plenty of water, sun protection, and a willingness to spend several hours on your feet.

Desert oasis escape
Pushwalla Palms Loop
Thousand Palms Oasis Preserve • Oasis And Badlands Loop • Best For Winter Mornings
A scenic loop that threads palm oases, sandy washes, and rolling desert hills in a protected preserve.
Just a short drive from Bermuda Dunes, the Pushwalla Palms Loop offers a classic Coachella Valley mix of shaded palm groves and wide-open desert. The route climbs gently out of the main oasis into eroded hills and side canyons, with constant changes in texture and color underfoot. Cooler months highlight the contrast between the lush palms and the stark, sculpted badlands around them.
