Plan on about a 40-minute drive from C-Road up toward the Sierra Buttes trailhead, then a sustained climb with plenty of switchbacks. The payoff is standing on the metal stairs of the historic lookout, staring down at turquoise lakes and out toward Mount Lassen on a clear day. Bring extra water, expect exposure near the top, and be ready for lingering snow early in the season.
