Big-view classic
Fiske Peak via Blue Ridge Trail
Blue Ridge Above Cache Creek • Rugged Ridge-Line Climb • Best Overall Challenge
A steep, rewarding hike straight up the Blue Ridge to sweeping views from Fiske Peak over Cache Creek and the Coast Range.
If you want the definitive Rumsey-area leg burner, this is it. The trail wastes no time gaining the ridge, then follows open, wind-swept slopes with constant views and spring wildflowers. Come prepared for exposed sections, a full-day effort, and minimal amenities beyond the small trailhead parking and creek access down below.

Scenic loop favorite
Frog Pond Trail
Cache Creek Regional Park, Lower Canyon • Rolling Creek-And-Pond Loop • Best For Varied Scenery
A moderate lasso-style loop mixing oak woodland, canyon views, and a quiet pond tucked above Cache Creek.
Frog Pond is the go-to loop when you want a bit of everything without committing to a summit push. The route winds through shaded draws, crosses small drainages, and climbs just enough to open up views of the canyon walls. It’s a comfortable step up from a flat walk, popular with locals on cool spring and fall weekends.

Easy access stroll
High Bridge Trail
High Bridge Area Along Highway 16 • Relaxed Riverside Walk • Best Easy Outing
A mellow out-and-back along Cache Creek from the High Bridge area, with easy grades and plenty of spots to linger by the water.
When summer heat or mixed ability groups call for something gentler, High Bridge is a dependable choice. The trail parallels the creek and stays mostly low and level, with broad gravel bars and shaded bends where you can pause to cool off. Expect more company on hot days, but also some of the easiest canyon access close to Rumsey.
04
Backcountry summit pick
Glascock Mountain
Backcountry North Of Rumsey • Remote Summit Hike • Best For Solitude
A steeper, less-traveled route to a rocky summit with broad views over the upper Cache Creek drainage.
Glascock Mountain appeals to hikers who like their peaks a bit off the radar. The approach feels wilder and more isolated than the main canyon trails, with stretches of narrow path, brushy sections, and long views unfolding as you gain height. It’s the kind of hike where you pack extra water, give yourself time, and are rewarded with a quiet summit to yourself.

Shoulder-season gem
3 Ponds Trail
Upper Cache Creek Drainage • Creekside Lollipop Loop • Best Shoulder-Season Ramble
A moderate loop and spur combination that explores small creek-fed ponds and open hillsides above Cache Creek.
The 3 Ponds Trail shines in late winter and spring, when the seasonal pools hold water and the surrounding slopes green up. The route offers a pleasant mix of gentle grades, short climbs, and open grassland stretches, making it easy to tailor your pace. It’s a great option when Fiske Peak feels like too much but you still want more than a flat river walk.
