01
Best overall pick
Skyline Wilderness Park
Southeast Napa, Minutes From Silverado Resort • Large Regional Park With Mixed Oak Woodland And Chaparral • Most Variety Close By
A local go-to with everything from short leg-stretchers to stout climbs with sweeping views over Napa Valley.
From Silverado Resort, Skyline is the easiest way to feel like you have left town without a long drive. You can wander the lower lake loops, or head up toward Lake Marie and the Skyline Trail for bigger elevation and valley panoramas. Trails are well signed, and the mix of fire roads and singletrack makes it easy to tailor the distance to your group.
02
Closest forested escape
Westwood Hills Park
West Napa, Above Browns Valley • Compact Hillside Park With Shaded Singletrack • Best For A Quick Workout With Views
A steep but short set of trails climbing through oak forest to benches with satisfying views over downtown Napa.
Westwood Hills is where locals duck out for a lunchtime or after-work hike when they want real elevation in under an hour. The main routes zigzag up the hillside under thick oaks, opening to a few grassy knolls ideal for catching sunset over the city. Expect some huff-and-puff on the climbs, but the park is small enough that you are never far from the trailhead.
03
Best mellow open-space walk
Alston Park
North Napa Off Dry Creek Road • Rolling Grassland And Dog-Friendly Open Space • Relaxed Outing With Room To Roam
Gently rolling trails through open fields and low ridges, with big-sky views and plenty of space for kids and dogs.
Alston Park is all about easy-going loops and broad horizons rather than big climbs. Wide paths weave between vineyards, meadows, and low hilltops, giving you constant views back toward Napa and the eastern ridges above Silverado. It is a great choice for a social walk, a recovery day between winery visits, or a sunset stroll when you want something simple but scenic.
04
Most dramatic ridge hike
Oat Hill Mine Trail
Calistoga, At The North End Of The Valley • Historic Mining Road Up A Rocky Volcanic Ridgeline • Best For Strong Hikers And Big Vistas
A rugged out-and-back climbing above Calistoga with lava rock outcrops, sweeping valley views, and a real backcountry feel.
If you are up for a stiffer challenge and a short drive, Oat Hill Mine delivers some of the most dramatic scenery within reach of Silverado. The old wagon road switchbacks steadily up through volcanic rock formations, with frequent viewpoints over vineyards and the Palisades. Turn around whenever you have had your fill, or push higher for wilder terrain, but expect uneven footing and some exposure to sun.
05
Shadiest summer option
Bothe-Napa Valley State Park
Between St. Helena And Calistoga On Highway 29 • State Park With Redwoods, Creeks, And Connector Trails • Family-Friendly Forest Wander
A cool, wooded network of trails with redwoods and a year-round creek, ideal when the valley floor is baking.
Bothe-Napa Valley State Park offers a very different feel from the open hills closer to Silverado, trading vineyards for ferns, bay laurel, and redwood pockets. The main loops follow Ritchey Creek and branch into side canyons, giving you plenty of options for 1–4 mile walks under near-constant shade. It is an easy park for families or mixed-ability groups, with picnic spots and a mellow atmosphere that encourages lingering.
