Top family-friendly outing
Frazier Falls Trail
Lakes Basin Recreation Area • Paved Waterfall Walk • Best Easy Hike With A Big Payoff
A short, mostly paved trail leading to a dramatic viewpoint over 240-foot Frazier Falls in a high-country granite canyon.
Frazier Falls is a classic ‘low effort, high reward’ hike that works well for mixed-ability groups and families. The path gently rolls through open forest and granite slabs before ending at a fenced overlook where the falls plunge into a rocky gorge. Combine it with a picnic at nearby Gold Lake or some exploring around Lakes Basin if you want to make a full day of it from Taylorsville.

Best relaxed lakeside ramble
Bucks Lake Lakeshore Trail
Bucks Lake Recreation Area • Forest-And-Lake Shoreline Route • Great For Mellow Full Or Half Days
A rolling path along the wooded shores of Bucks Lake, with coves, camp areas, and casual swim spots to break up the miles.
The Lakeshore Trail traces in and out of bays and inlets, offering constant lake views and plenty of places to step off for a snack or a dip. You can hike a short out-and-back from one of the trailheads or turn it into a longer loop-style day by connecting segments. It is an easygoing option when you want fresh air and scenery without a big climb, especially on warm summer afternoons.

Quick scenic stop on the way
Indian Falls Trail
Between Quincy And Greenville • Short River Gorge Walk • Best For A Quick Stretch And Swim
A brief wooded path that drops to the North Fork Feather River and a pretty cascade with polished rock pools.
Just off Highway 89, the Indian Falls Trail is a convenient stop when you are driving between Taylorsville and Quincy or Greenville. The trail is short but drops you quickly into a shady river corridor where water slides over smooth rock and forms inviting pools later in the season. It is ideal when you have only 30–45 minutes but still want to feel like you have stepped properly into the outdoors.

Iconic regional summit day
Lassen Peak Trail
Lassen Volcanic National Park • High-Elevation Volcano Climb • Bucket-List Challenge For Strong Hikers
A steep, switchbacking ascent up the flank of Lassen Peak with far-reaching views across the southern Cascades and into the Sierra.
The Lassen Peak Trail starts high and climbs higher, gaining serious elevation in a relatively short distance as it zigzags through volcanic rubble and alpine slopes. On clear days you can see a huge sweep of Northern California from the summit, making it one of the most memorable day hikes within striking distance of Taylorsville. Plan for thinner air, strong sun, and potentially windy conditions up top, and check for lingering snow early in the season.
