Many hikers make a day of it by turning around at a mid-distance lake, while stronger parties link multiple lakes into a longer outing. Spring brings wildflowers, while cooler months offer the most comfortable temperatures for tackling the steeper loops.

The gentle grades make it friendly for mixed-ability groups, while the distance options let you turn around whenever you’re ready. Expect tall pines, interpretive signs, and a quieter feel than many lakeside trails closer to the highway.
