Illinois Beach State Park is located on Lake Michigan just north of Chicago in Zion, Illinois. The main attraction is a 6.5 mile long beach featuring sandy areas for swimmers and sun bathers.
The lengthy beach allows for beach goers to set up in relative isolation and have the beach to themselves if they wish to avoid the more crowded areas. The clear blue water and light colored sand provides the feel of a tropical beach.
The 4,160 acre park also includes a nature preserve that features unique topography and a large variety of plant and animal species.
The park features the Illinois Beach Resort and Conference Center, campgrounds, swimming beaches, hiking trails, marinas, and a park store.
Park visitors can enjoy many activities including swimming, hiking, boating, bicycling, fishing, camping, picnicking, SCUBA diving, geocaching, cross country skiing, or simply enjoy nature.
