Emerald Mound is a monumental prehistoric earthwork, constructed as a ceremonial center by ancestors of the Natchez Indians. Recognized as the second-largest Mississippian mound in the United States, it was used for important religious, civic, and social gatherings between 1200 and 1730 CE. The site is now preserved as a National Historic Landmark and features restored platform and secondary mounds managed by the National Park Service.
