Alpine Hills Museum offers a one-of-a-kind experience featuring 3 floors of historical artifacts detailing the rich history of Swiss and Amish heritage unique to the Sugarcreek area. The museum is located in the Swiss Village in downtown Sugarcreek just minutes from many other area attractions.
The museum tour starts with a video presentation about Amish culture and the impact the Swiss immigrants had on the rich history of the Sugarcreek area. The tour continues with numerous audio-visual displays about this intriguing historical era, including a complete replica of an 1890 Cheese House, 1895 Fire Equipment, a 1900s Amish kitchen, early wood shop with hand tools, early printing equipment, and more. Other items are on display as well, including their Swiss Alp Horns
The museum is home to the Sugar Creek Visitor Center which offers free information about attractions in the Sugarcreek area, including the brick wall sculptures and the world's largest cuckoo clock, both located across the street from the museum. Admission to the museum is free, but donations are appreciated.
By the time guests have concluded the tour of the museum, they will have gained a full perspective on how Swiss and Amish heritage shaped the Sugarcreek area that would become known as the “Little Switzerland of Ohio.”
